Did I write this book of pieces for you?
Most of you looking at this book will probably have some familiarity with my music and compositions. The ability to play syncopating rhythms with the right hand and to make them sound smooth and easy is probably the most important element to playing my music correctly. It must flow and not be jumpy or erratic. The technic necessary to make these compositions flow is not easy, but still learnable through study.
But what do you study?
Because this type of music for guitar has not been around all that long there isn’t much in the way of literature on the market which would help you “gradually” learn to get this feel into your fingers. There are plenty of guitar instruction books explaining in lengthy detail theory, harmony, chordal structure, scales, arranging, etc., etc. What is missing are simple pieces constructed in a pure guitaristic chordal fashion that allow you to concentrate your energies almost entirely on the movement of your right hand. The right hand is the one which gives your music swing or syncopation, and that is what this music is about.
